Dear President Calderón, Its time to tackle tax havens...

Our friends at the End Tax Haven Secrecy coalition are organising an email campaign calling on G20 leaders, and especially Mexico's President Calderón who holds the G20 chair in 2012, to take further steps against tax havens. Please sign up to this campaign by following this link.

The text of the email is as follows:

President Felipe Calderón

We welcome the steps taken at the G20 meeting in Cannes last November to tackle global tax dodging. However, these steps were not enough to end the secrecy in tax havens which is at the heart of this problem.

Most countries are losing huge sums of money from companies’ use of tax havens. According to the OECD, developing countries are losing far more through tax dodging than they receive in aid.

Tax havens play a key role in making this happen, by providing the financial secrecy which allows companies to dodge taxes.

That is why I am calling on you to show leadership at the G20 in 2012 and persuade fellow world leaders to End Tax Haven Secrecy.

Yours sincerely,
